Verisign, which recently sold it's security business to Symantec, is rumored to be considering moving it's world headquarters in Mountainview, California to 12061 Bluemont Way in Reston. The building, which is adjacent to the Reston Town Center, being considered is currently occupied by Sallie Mae. Sallie may is moving most of its employees to Delaware.
If Verisign does move to Reston, it will bring additional jobs to the area. Verisign is also likely to consolidate it's employees currently located in Sterling, Virginia to the Reston location.
After the sale of the security business is completed, Versign's remaining business will be primarily focused on domain name registry services. Verisign operates the global registry for .com, .net, .tv, .jobs and a number of others. One of Verisign's major competitors, Neustar is also based in Northern Virginia. Neustar operates the registry for .biz, .us, .co, .travel, and .tel. Neustar is located in Sterling, Va.
