More than 2,400 people came out to cast a ballot in the Town of Herndon’s council and mayoral election on Tuesday.
The Town of Herndon election included rush hour periods before 9 a.m. and after 5:30 p.m. as well as during other times near voters’ lunch hours. Between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. a steady stream of voters came through the doors of the community center. At about 10:30 a.m. about 800 people had cast their ballots.
At around 6 p.m. last-minute voters visited the polls and crowds began to form. Cars had to park along the street in no parking zones, police officers directed voters in and out of the parking lot and the line of voters spilled out of the community center and through the parking lot.
