Four New Members Elected to Council, DeBenedittis

Four new members have been added to the Herndon Town Council and Mayor Steve DeBenedittis has been re-elected for a third term.

The 2010-12 Town Council will include Lisa Merkel, who will also serve as vice mayor, Connie Hutchinson, Sheila Olem, Jasbinder Singh, Grace Wolf and Bill Tirrell.

DeBenedittis, who ran unopposed, was elected with a total of 1,520 votes, while write-in candidate Gary Gepford gathered 560 votes. Gepford launched a last-minute campaign during the week prior to the election.

Shortly after the unofficial results were released DeBenedittis said he was still taking it all in. He the new members of council will benefit from the experience that Tirrell and Hutchinson bring to the council. “I hope they’re ready to work hard,” he said.
