Founder’s Day will begin with an illustrated presentation by Garvin from noon until 2 p.m. He will focus on Lake Anne developments and James Rossant, the architect of Lake Anne who passed away in December. Garvin’s presentation will be held at the Jo Ann Rose Gallery in the Reston community Center at Lake Anne.
“We’re extremely pleased Mr. Garvin has accepted our invitation to speak on Founder's Day,” said Lynn Lilienthal, chairwoman of Reston Historic Trust.
Tom Grubisich, journalist and author of “Reston, The First Twenty Years,” said, “Garvin is one of the most astute – and quotable – urban design practitioners and critics in the U.S. He is best known as the former vice president for planning, design and development at the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation, the agency charged with the redevelopment of the World Trade Center following 9/11.”
Grubisich said among Garvin’s many accolades, he is the author of “The American City: What Works, What Doesn’t,” and is a winner of the 1996 American Institute of Architects book award in urbanism. Grubisich said, “In researching the book, Garvin visited Reston, so he is no stranger to Lake Anne. Garvin is sure to say something significant about the past, present and future of Lake Anne Village Center.”
